Upper Limb Assessment System
ARAT

A standardized test for assessing upper limb function in hemiplegic patients

The test duration is significantly reduced compared to conventional methods (UEFT), allowing for a quick assessment of upper limb function with a simple structure.

The tasks are structured hierarchically and weighted according to difficulty, with  validity and reliability verified in multiple studies.

Main features

Reliability

The system has shown high reliability, validity, and responsiveness, demonstrating strong correlations with the upper extremity motor section of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment.
Compared to STEF, it is considered to have higher responsiveness in detecting changes in upper limb function.

Comprehensive Assessment from Severe to Mild Cases

Assessments that were previously difficult for patients with severe paralysis can now be performed across a wide range—from those with severe upper limb dysfunction on the affected side to those with milder impairments.

Test Structure: 4 Categories, 19 Items

The assessment consists of 19 test items across 4 categories: Grasp, Grip, Pinch, and Gross Movement.
Each evaluation can be completed in a short time, typically within 5 to 10 minutes.
